Tesla said to build local operation team for FSD in China

Beijing (Gasgoo)- Tesla is strategically assembling a local operational team of around 20 members in its initial push to bring the Full Self-Drive (FSD) autonomous driving solution to the Chinese market, according to a local media outlet.

An industry insider disclosed that engineers have been dispatched from Tesla's headquarters for training.

Furthermore, sources said that Tesla is concurrently exploring the formation of a data annotation team in China, with an approximate size of over a hundred members. This initiative aligns with the company's commitment to train algorithms for FSD.

Equally significant is Tesla's clear approach to vehicle data storage. On August 14, Tesla China declared in a statement that it has established a data center within China, ensuring that all data generated by vehicles sold in the Chinese mainland market will be stored domestically.

FSD represents Tesla's years-long pursuit of a comprehensive autonomous driving solution. Distinguished from the current standard Autopilot-assisted driving feature, FSD aims to achieve fully autonomous driving without human intervention.

From a technical architecture perspective, Tesla's FSD has entered a relatively refined stage, leading the company to progress its global market deployment. Reports earlier this year indicated active FSD testing in countries and regions including the UK, Norway, Germany, and China.

These developments signal Tesla's earnest efforts to introduce its autonomous driving solution into the Chinese market. User feedback following an August 9 vehicle system update revealed an aspect involving autonomous driving data collection, giving users the option to participate based on their preferences.
